Double H Recreational Club (Economy)

Image
Double H Recreational Club is located at Southern Main Road Cunupia, if proceeding towards Chin Chin Junction in a Southernly direction from Warrenville side it is directly opposite the savannah on your right side (this is before the Cunupia Police Station). I took my first drink of hard liquor in this bar (White Oak: BTW I drink mostly beers now). Parking is sufficient though patrons usually park on the savannah side and walk across when their front park is full. Ambiance is good enough for a economy bar, it has an extra large televsion screen looks like 72 inches I don't think they ever had any cutters, maybe boil channa a couple of times. But when you have a chinese restaurant next door you are not obligated to sell any cutters (this is a smart move), get high first and then to the restaurant to eat.  Seating is sufficient with tables located both outside and inside. When seated outside, you have the savannah as a good view and in the night the lights in savannah automa

How Zat Sports Bar and Cutters Stop (Economy)

Image
How Zat Sports Bar is located at 163 Tragarete Road, Wood Brook Port of Spain. This bar is walking distance from the Queens Park Oval on the Western Side. After matches from the oval this bar is the usual watering hole (LOL). This bar is of average size with adequate seating inside and outside and at the back, of course when the bar is packed patrons will go by the pavement to drink their beers or stand inside. Music is pumping but not too loud. For an economy bar they have alot of cutters for sale, their menu  items consisted of local, regional and international cuisines. We had the pepper shrimp and the jerk wings: it was delectable.  Due to its location, this bar has alot of traffic so promotions here are frequent. I think the most recent promotion here was the White Oak Promotion.  Last year had a big Angostura Rum Day Promotion with August 16th being National Rum Day (if this was a holiday....hmmmm) with $5 specials on White Oak and Black Label $8 specials on Forres park

Mates Bar (Economy)

Image
Mates Bar is located at #1 Rasheed Avenue, Monroe Road Cunupia (Opposite the Monroe Road Pre-School). Mates bar long ago was very ole school, but like all economy bars renovations were done (I am guessing to keep up with the younger generation). They added an outside deck with seating, ambiance is superb (as with all economy bars): I always meet friends here whenever taking a cold one/s. Music was mellow, Live Dj's every Friday and Saturday Night, they have two television screens which is sufficient when watching matches. Cutters include hard fowl, boil channa and fried chicken. The boil channa was excellent (with heavy pepper). Parking is limited as only 4 or 5 cars can fit in the carpark, patrons usually park on the road adjacent to Mates or across the road.  Drinks menu include local beers such as all Carib products , selected foreign beers , all Angostura products and Johnnie Walker, Tequila, Vodka, Bacardi and Bailey's. Due to this bar being popular it was s

Zanzibar (Movietwone)

Image
Zanzibar Restaurant is located in Fiesta Plaza Movietowne Port of Spain. Upon entry you are greeted by friendly staff and directed to the bar or dining tables, we went straight to the bar. The ambiance is great and the layout of television screens wasn't bad, patrons have the option of seating in the general area (middle), on the upper deck or at the bar (mainly for drinkers). Music wasn't too loud like other sports bars but just right. Their cuisine is mainly American with influences from China, Mexico while incorporating local flavors. We sampled the House Cut Parmesan Herbed Fries and the Three Amigas which consisted of fried scallops, shrimp and calamari with sweet chili sauce: it was bess!!!. Zanzibar has an eclectic menu of specialty cocktails from dry to sweet, an extensive wine list and tap or bottled beers and lagers from all over the world: dark, light or amber (whichever your choice). At the moment until September 30th HAPPY HOUR is from 5pm to 8pm 2 4 1 spe

White Knight Bar (Economy)

Image
White Knight Bar is located at Caroni Savannah Road Chaguanas (Central Area). Again folks, Economy Bars are my favorite bars. It looks small from the outside but not too small, as you can see from the picture a maximum of 4 vehicles can fit depending on how close and the skills of each driver. We had to park on the road, I usually get the fish broth on Sundays but we arrived half 12 and all finished, one of the best fish broths you would find (without excessive oil floating on top)- excellent fish broth!! Inside has a pool table for all those pool lovers, and the home made channa is the best, When I am fasting I come here just for the fry channa: if you can't handle pepper do not try this channa.  This bar is active in terms of cookouts, hosting parang events and  participating in curry duck events. All economy bars are best for watching matches/sports, due to their prices and savory cutters. As with all economy bars,  all local drinks are available and only selected/popu

Ruby Tuesday (Price Plaza)

Image
Ruby Tuesday is located in Price Plaza (Central Trinidad). Approaching Ruby Tuesday you have two options: one you can use the stairs (for all health conscious people) and two: you can use the elevator (excellent choice for when you had a little too much). Ambiance is good, designed with all out American memorabilia, seating is adequate both by the bar and dining area. Cuisine is all out American, they have some new menu items especially for the summer (of course we tried them) : Rt's shrimp basket and the garlic roasted chicken with gravy, Verdict: splendid!!. Additionally they have Wings Wednesday from 5pm buy one special  and get one free and on Tuesdays 2 for 1 specials on selected appetizers (usually consists of the cheaper ones). Around the bar area was three or four televisions which considering the size of the area was okay. Being an American restaurant they have a wide variety of liquors both local and foreign. Specials such as Terrific Tuesdays 2 4 1 from 5pm to 9p

Woodford Cafe (Price Plaza)

Image
Woodford Cafe is located in Price Plaza (on Movietowne side) on the the Western side. This sports bar is a cool place to kick back and relax after work or even during the week to pass time for the traffic to ease up. Their cuisine include international, Caribbean and creole. We had popcorn chicken and the Guinness chicken kebabs, it was savory. They also have a Pizza happy hour (yes people for all those pizza lovers!!) Monday-Thursday 3pm-7pm : when you purchase one you get one topping pizza free. Ambiance is average, with seating accommodation outside (huge area), inside and upper floor, bars are inside and outside for ease of drinking. Not so much televisions but will do. My Favourite : Guys they have Happy Hour EVERYDAY from 3pm-7pm. 2 4 1 Johnnie Walker Black, Vodka, Single Barrel Rum, Carib and Stag Draft, Pina Coladas and selected Martinis. On Fridays are even better specials on Black Label and White Oak Rum (5$ :7pm-9pm) and ($10: 9pm-11pm). They already started to res

Steel Restaurant and Lounge

Image
Steel Restaurant and Lounge is situated in South Park Mall San Fernando. This restaurant is probably the most recently opened sports bar in Trinidad. Their cuisine include American, West Indian, Chinese and Italian dishes. Approaching the entrance, the bouncers were routinely checking patrons identification cards (LOL) and then I remembered its summer vacation. The upstairs (deck) is huge with open air seating, we visited on a Friday night, so it was packed. Music was pumping, televisions screens were sufficient, you had the option of dining inside or a more quiet experience inside: which had a full restaurant.  Ambiance was above average: design and layout. The seating accommodation was substantial, tables were placed at specific locations on the outside deck for those which chose to stand. Steel boasts a wide variety of both local and international beers and hard liquors, the wrap around bar was the highlight (in my opinion). We had the pepper chicken and spicy chicken alf

The Rig Restaurant and Lounge

Image
The Rig Restaurant and Lounge is conveniently located on South Trunk Road La Romaine, San Fernando. This place has a huge floor (inside) consisting of dining area, bar area and a small stage for live performances. Their cuisine includes mainly Chinese and local influences.  We had the steam shrimp wantons in garlic and pepper sauce and butter fried mushrooms (first time I had this item), both was delectable. Ambiance is spectacular, seating options are plentiful and patrons can choose from outer deck, upper deck, dining table, booth or bar.  Drinks include popular cocktails, scotch, rum, beer, vodka, wine, gin, tequila, brandy and liqueurs, additionally a wide selection of non alcoholic drinks is available. For the smokers Hookah is available. Karaoke is Tuesdays, live entertainment every Friday (both local and regional artistes). Televisions are sufficient however due to the size you may have to get a better seat to view a match, I saw a large projector screen so maybe wh

Toppers Restaurant and Bar (Grand Bazaar)

Image
Toppers Restaurant and Bar is located on the Northern side of Grand Bazaar Mall. This is definitely not your economy class sports bars. Viewing from the outside, the deck is spacious and seating is sufficient. Patrons have the option of dining/drinking inside or outside (I always go outside). American Cuisine is featured from steaks and ribs to seafood and pasta, they have a wide selection of appetizers. I had the Chicken Hoagie (yes I know this is not an appetizer but its good), buffalo wings and fries. Ambiance is above average, some activities include Karaoke every Wednesday night at 9pm, live bands every Thursday night at 9pm and the hyped after work lime. A wide selection of local and foreign liquors.  The last time I visited here customer service could have been better, the waiter when I explained to her we waited half and hour before we could have drinks she immediately apologized to us which was polite of her. Not many television screens, but it will do. Inside has an

Rising Star Restaurant and Bar

Image
Rising Star is located on Hilda Terrace San Fernando in other words off the by pass in San Fernando by M. Rampersad Auto Supplies. Since their most recent renovation , the ambiance have changed drastically (on the positive side). This has the most open setting I have seen in any sports bar, meaning although you are seated inside there are no doors or windows so its one flowing entrance. This can be considered a sport bar enthusiast best bar due to their limitless television screens, full fledged restaurant and most all a HOOKA LOUNGE. Their menu consists of local, American and Chinese cuisines. I had the butter fried pepper squid (which I usually have) and stuffed shrimp eggplant, both was excellent : Menu  is extensive and I highly think you would't regret trying something new. Customer service here was very courteous and helpful, as we delayed our order and changed drinks, but our waiter was very patient periodically checking us to replenish depleted drinks.  For a sp

Hanggers Extreme

Image
Hanggers Extreme is conveniently in Heartland Plaza in Chaguanas (this is the new plaza before Xtra Foods opposite Ministry of Agriculture),  for those of you who still do not know where I am speaking about , its on the Divali Nagar Road (Now you know where it is). Hanggers Extreme is off the Uriah Butler highway which is very convenient for patrons wanting a beer or some good cutters, usually the traffic after work moves very slow and backs up around this area on the highway. So its a good idea to take a few beers and munch on some cutters whilst the traffic slow downs and moves faster. Alot of cocktails to choose from.  Upon entering Hanggers, what striked me the most was the space (its extremely spacious). Sometimes you would go in a bar to watch a cricket match and patrons would step on your feet or hit your chair when passing but in this sports bar that is impossible. Alot, alot of televisions so anywhere you are sitting would be a good angle to watch it from. Ambiance i

Matches Bar (Economy)

Image
Matches Bar is located in Monroe Road Cunupia (Central Trinidad), at the corner of Ajodha Road if proceeding towards the West. From since inception I was always a big fan of this bar, in my opinion the best bars are the economy bars because these are the bars where you usually meet humble, genuine people and the conversations are honest and unbiased.  Around the time Matches Bar opened their doors  (if I could remember correctly) , they were the only bar around the Cunupia area which sold 'real cutters' and I am not implying nuts and channa I mean REAL cutters. These include chicken foot souse, fish broth on Sundays, bhagi soup and curry/stew hard fowl and duck. Beers include the usual, Carib, Stag, Heineken, Polar Ice, Presedente, Coors Light, Guinness and Corona Extra.  Hard Liquor include the popular items such as Johnnie Walker, Vodka, Puncheon , White Oak, Hennessy, Hard Wine and Black Label.  The ambiance is warm and welcoming, usually on a Sunday morning
