When was the last time you sat in a sports bar
with a beastly cold beer, munching on delicious cutters to view a cricket
match? Now if that is not life I don't know what is.
My name is Ravi Randy Rampersad and I felt a strong obligation to do a
blog on the best local sports bars in Trinidad and Tobago. I have been to many
sports bars, watching sports, drinking , eating and listening to groovy music
but according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) stress is at an all time
high in Trinidad and alot of Trinidadians suffer from hypertension, guys you do
not need to visit the doctor to tell you to take it slow or go out and have
fun, I am telling you! In my blog drinks, food and ambiance
will be highlighted when reviewing sports bars. The purpose of the blog is to
share with fellow sports bars enthusiasts and the general public about bars
which excel in these three areas that were highlighted earlier. By this time
some of you may have searched the statistic about Trinidad as it relates to WHO
and discovered that I lied, but who cares.

Steel Restaurant and Lounge is situated in South Park Mall San Fernando. This restaurant is probably the most recently opened sports bar in Trinidad. Their cuisine include American, West Indian, Chinese and Italian dishes. Approaching the entrance, the bouncers were routinely checking patrons identification cards (LOL) and then I remembered its summer vacation. The upstairs (deck) is huge with open air seating, we visited on a Friday night, so it was packed. Music was pumping, televisions screens were sufficient, you had the option of dining inside or a more quiet experience inside: which had a full restaurant. Ambiance was above average: design and layout. The seating accommodation was substantial, tables were placed at specific locations on the outside deck for those which chose to stand. Steel boasts a wide variety of both local and international beers and hard liquors, the wrap around bar was the highlight (in my opinion). We had the pepper chicken and spicy chicken...
Double H Recreational Club is located at Southern Main Road Cunupia, if proceeding towards Chin Chin Junction in a Southernly direction from Warrenville side it is directly opposite the savannah on your right side (this is before the Cunupia Police Station). I took my first drink of hard liquor in this bar (White Oak: BTW I drink mostly beers now). Parking is sufficient though patrons usually park on the savannah side and walk across when their front park is full. Ambiance is good enough for a economy bar, it has an extra large televsion screen looks like 72 inches I don't think they ever had any cutters, maybe boil channa a couple of times. But when you have a chinese restaurant next door you are not obligated to sell any cutters (this is a smart move), get high first and then to the restaurant to eat. Zanzibar Restaurant is located in Fiesta Plaza Movietowne Port of Spain. Upon entry you are greeted by friendly staff and directed to the bar or dining tables, we went straight to the bar. The ambiance is great and the layout of television screens wasn't bad, patrons have the option of seating in the general area (middle), on the upper deck or at the bar (mainly for drinkers). Music wasn't too loud like other sports bars but just right. Their cuisine is mainly American with influences from China, Mexico while incorporating local flavors. We sampled the House Cut Parmesan Herbed Fries and the Three Amigas which consisted of fried scallops, shrimp and calamari with sweet chili sauce: it was bess!!!. Zanzibar has an eclectic menu of specialty cocktails from dry to sweet, an extensive wine list and tap or bottled beers and lagers from all over the world: dark, light or amber (whichever your choice).
